Welcome to our new website!

Many people contributed to the creation of our beautiful and organized new website - most importantly designer James Hobbs. James is an amazing designer who creates websites for both businesses and nonprofit organizations. You can see more of his work at his personal website: http://www.hobbscreative.co.nz/

I only know James from our email communications; unfortunately I have not been able to meet him personally. He is from New Zealand and is currently working in Oregon. The closest I have come to speaking with him is leaving a message on his voice mail once!  Our relationship highlights the tremendous importance of the internet in today’s society and in running a business - whether for-profit or charitable. Millions of people communicate, make decisions and do work electronically. A professional and attractive website can be crucial to reaching a desired audience and inspiring others to action. So James has provided Local Foods Connection with a important tool as well as a work of art.

Our relationship also demonstrates James’ great skill in being able to understand the soul of our organization from afar and to create an appropriate and exciting site for our work. Thank you James!

Others contributing to the new website include the content writers: me, Caroline Gottschalk-Druschke and Robert Handler. Jillean Williams, Mark Puck and Ian Curran were students of the University of Iowa’s Donate Design class during the Spring semester 2009. They designed Local Foods Connection’s new logo, as well as the “Guide to Iowa City Area Farmers Markets” and “Activity Booklet” to which you will find links on the Frequently Asked Questions page. Their work was supervisor by Professor Brad Dicharry

I also want to extend my gratitude to Marlene Jessop who designed Local Foods Connection’s first website and managed it for years.

Take Care, Laura Dowd
