** When New Pioneer distributes dividend checks to its members every year, the store suggests to their members to sign-over their dividend checks to Local Foods Connection. In 2009, 1,500 members donated their checks, which averaged $9/each, making a total donation of over $13,500.00!

Nonprofit Organization Donations
Art & Ecology Class, University of Iowa: created and sold seed bombs, which are balls of compressed soil and seeds that are thrown into abandoned space to create life.
City of Iowa City: Community Development Block Grant program is one of the longest-running programs of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and funds local community development activities such as affordable housing, anti-poverty programs, and infrastructure development.
Environmental Advocates, Iowa City
Iowa Foundation for Education, Environment, and the Arts: makes a 2:1 match with all the dividend checks donated to LFC by New Pioneer Co-Op members. In addition, donated $5,000 for LFC to start an endowment fund.
