page-christopherChristopher Page won a Truman & Udall Scholarship!

The Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 in funding to students pursuing graduate degrees in public service fields. Students must be college juniors at the time of selection. The Foundation also provides assistance with career counseling, internship placement, graduate school admissions, and professional development.

The mission of the Truman Scholarship Foundation is:

1. to find and recognize college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service; and

2. to provide them with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service.

In 2010, the Udall Foundation expects to award 80 scholarships of up to $5000 and 50 honorable mentions of $350 to sophomore and junior level college students committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care.

Scholarships are offered in any of three categories: 1. To students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to the environment; or 2. To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to tribal public policy; or 3. To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to Native health care.

The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics.

Christopher has volunteered for Local Foods Connection since he was in high school. He began his volunteer service with us by participating in our farm work days. As a University of Iowa student and president of the Honors Students, he led large groups through farm work day activities. He also spear-headed a Masquerade Ball Fundraiser for LFC last October, and raised $1,000!

Chris mentions Local Foods Connection in his Truman Scholar biography! Check it out:
