Tucked into the corner of a historic building in downtown Iowa City, The Haunted Bookshop is a secondhand bookshop specializing in poetry, literature, first and signed editions and Iowa-related books. As Iowa City’s oldest secondhand bookshop, Haunted Book carries over 40, 000 used, rare, out of print and antiquarian titles along with toys, games, cards and much more! In this one-of-a-kind shop, winding shelves lead you past racks of beautiful and interesting toys, cards, and art, back to cozy nooks with comfortable chairs (which might be occupied by a friendly cat!). The shop also sports a porch and dining room which are open to community gatherings. Haunted Book’s friendly, quirky staff are always ready to show off their expertise and are dedicated to helping customers-from the book collector to the curious wanderer-to find just what they’re looking for.

Along with welcoming readers from the entire community, Haunted Book hosts workshops on topics like Health Care Reform, impromptu piano and puppet performances, local art displays and sewing circles. The shop also supports Local Foods Connection in our work to provide healthy, local food to families in the community by donating proceeds from their ongoing Benefit Sale shelves. In 2009 alone, The Haunted Bookshop donated over 2000 dollars to Local Foods Connection, which exceeds the donations of all other local businesses combined. We consider Haunted Book one of our good friends and are fortunate to have a partnership with such a special, community based business. Stop by to brows the stacks and support Local Foods’ work!
