  1. This summer I have been given the opportunity to try something still relatively new to me, a middle-aged woman. And this is giving back to the community! Really! I know it was way past due. In an effort to stop the perpetual image cycle stemming from child abuse, I have volunteered in the community. One of my windows of opportunity was placed in my lap at the committee meeting for the Common Good. At this meeting, Laura Dowd, the administrative support person for the ZJ Organic Farm, introduced us to its existence, and their exciting plan of adopting a family. I was intrigued by the proposal, as I have become very endeared to organic foods due to having cancer in 1992. But not just getting organic food in return for a couple of hours of labor, actually working on a farm, and having the opportunity of learning about a different way of life turns out I saw how hard some people work to serve other families. I know it probably sounds corny, but I think being in this kind of environment has been invaluable. There is a lot of beauty on the family farm, peace, and strength I've captured in my mind. Something really good to look back on. Thank you!

  2. The food and bread shares have been extremely helpful to us as a family. We have so many mouths to feed. The food dollars never stretch as far as you hope they might. Local Harvest CSA has been a real boon. The fresh vegetables are a wonderful addition to our food budget as well as being tasty and of a nice variety. The children are learning about food, where it comes from, preparation, and what constitutes a meal. It has been an education for all of us. We also enjoy socializing with the other members of the CSA. This has been a wonderful experience for our family. I hope all of you feel good about the generosity you have shown our family, and the help you have given us in the efforts to do God's work. (editors note: This family has seven adopted children.)
